Develop a wearable sensor to absorb perspiration and determine the level of stress
A team of American scientists has been able to develop a waterproof sensor that can be worn directly on the skin, absorbing sweat within seconds to measure and evaluate the level of cortisol responsible for the feeling of stress.
The clinical tests that measure cortisol levels, which rise and fall naturally throughout the day, are an objective measure of emotional or physical stress, and can help doctors determine if the adrenal or pituitary gland is working properly or not.
While current methods require waiting several days to get results from the laboratory, with the new sensor developed, the user only needs to sweat enough to properly measure the level of "cortisol" and communicate the readings with the Bluetooth device with a surgical device that produces the product within a few seconds.
"We are particularly interested in sensing sweat because it provides ongoing and non-ongoing monitoring of many vital indicators of a range of physiological conditions," said Dr. Anwar Ballark, a professor at Stanford University. "This sensor offers a new approach to early detection of various diseases and evaluating athletic performance."
If the initial version of the wearable device becomes a reality, it may enable people with an imbalance to monitor their levels at home, they said. A quick test like this may also reveal the emotional state of young children, even before learning to speak. They are not able to communicate with others and reveal their suffering from stress.Develop a wearable sensor to absorb perspiration and determine the level of stress
